colchester royal grammar school

named east anglia state school of the decade by the sunday times in 2021, crgs is a selective day school for boys aged 11 – 18 years and co-educational in the sixth form. it is one of very few state boarding schools, with a family-style boarding house designed for 30 sixth form students. founded in 1206 and granted two royal charters, by henry viii in 1539 and by elizabeth i in 1584, it has a history of scholarship dating back to the sixteenth century.‘pupils say school is a safe and enjoyable place to be’ (ofsted, feb 2022) and central to the ethos of our school are the core values: compassion, respect, generosity and support.
