2016年7月23日，深圳市政府与中国航天科技集团公司举行高通量宽带卫星项目签约暨亚太卫星宽带通信（深圳）有限公司成立仪式，标志着我国首个全球高通量宽带卫星通信系统启动建设。 高通量宽带卫星通信系统是一种先进的卫星通信技术。其所采用的高通量宽带卫星，比常规通信卫星高出数十倍容量，可让用户通过卫星传输随时随地享受高速互联网服务。高通量宽带卫星通信具有传输带宽宽、覆盖范围广、业务种类多、建设速度快、价格低廉等独特优势。“十三五”期间，将发射4颗高通量卫星，现第一颗星已经开始启动建设。我们将构建覆盖全球的，天地一体、自主可控、高效安全的卫星宽带通信网络和服务平台，可在服务国家“一带一路”、“走出去”、“宽带中国”战略和海外发展战略的同时，向国内外航空机载、海事船载和陆地移动业务客户，提供高通量卫星资源和宽带卫星通信服务。亚太星通将于深圳宝安中心区规划建设卫星通信运营大厦，占地面积7631平方米，建筑面积合计为76310平方米。亚太星通得到了国家发改委、工信部及深圳市政府的重视与支持，有望在宝安引领卫星产业的集群发展。
